Renovated Windmill For Sale

Welcome to our most unusual home – a windmill. It's a wonderful place to call home. We bought the mill 28 years ago. Back then it was in a really sorry state but we could see it had huge potential. With lots of hard work, laughter and a few tears we transformed the old 'Black Giant' (as it's locally known) into a superb home. We are both truly delighted with the outcome but family commitments make it necessary for us to move.

It is now a Grade II listed building but all the alterations and improvements were done before the limitations that come with a listed building were in force.

The mill is located on the very edge of the lovely village of Elston, in the Trent valley, It provides open views across farm fields to the South, towards Belvour Castle, and has around half an acre of secluded garden, some to the front but mostly to the rear of the premises. Here you'll find a number of fruit trees, a border garden around an extensive lawn, edged on two sides by a well maintained hawthorn hedge.

The mill tower itself is an imposing 50ft tall with five floors. The ground floor dining room is 20 feet wide inside and the topmost bedroom has a diameter of 13 feet. The first floor serves well as a private lounge while the remaining three floors are bedrooms. All are linked by a superbly crafted staircase that follows the curvature of the mill wall, from ground floor to the top floor. The standard of construction throughout the whole of the mill and extension is of a very high order since Mike's a bit of a perfectionist and quite a craftsman (although he would probably deny it).

Attached to the mill is a single-story extension with kitchen, utility room, bathroom, separate W.C., hall and large garage (currently used as a workshop). The kitchen is equipped with a Tirola multi-fuel stove for cooking and heating and all carpets and curtains are included.

The village of Elston is situated approximately 20 miles from Nottingham and 6 miles from the market town of Newark and the A1. The village is just off the A46. Newark is on the high-speed electric rail network to London, Doncaster and the North. There's a regular bus service to Bingham, Newark and Nottingham.
